Yesterday, 11th October, was the anniversary of the funeral procession of Pope Pius XII in 1958. The procession into Rome from Castel Gandolfo saw the largest congregation of Romans as of that date. Cardinal Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli (later Pope John XXIII) wrote in his diary "that probably no Roman emperor had enjoyed such a triumph".
